'I May Destroy You' is a British Black comedy-drama television limited series. The series is set in London with a predominantly Black British cast. Coel stars plays Arabella, a young writer in the public eye who seeks to rebuild her life after being raped. Adam Gillham The cinematographer behind the series provides a unique insight into the work with the visual intensity that gives the series the depth and seriousness that, among other things, has given the series its success. In the series, we follow the influencer Arabella, who in the first episode is raped. The series then deals with Arabella's search for answers to who did it – and to get her revenge. The series is carried by being very intimate, simple, and emotional, and the series works primarily with close-up and expression instead of dialogue. Throughout the process, Adam Gillham has worked very closely with series creator Michaela Coel, he gives us an introduction to the visual work behind the series as well as the challenges and techniques, he used to bring the intense and strong emotions all the way to the screen.
Another scene we have taken inspiration from is at the beginning of 'The Wolf of Wall Street' (2013), where the drugs are taken. In our film, for obvious reasons we can not actually do this, so we will use close up tracking shots of our prop of potentially icing sugar to replicate a white powder.
